TAYLOR TOWNSEND AND JOHN WILLIAMS END COACHING PARTNERSHIP
Orlando, FL: Coach John Williams and WTA tennis star Taylor Townsend have today ended their four-year coaching partnership.
Williams began working with Townsend in 2021, stepping into a head coaching role that marked the start of a transformative chapter in Townsend’s professional tennis journey.
Under Williams’ guidance, Townsend went from new mom to just outside the top 100 within the first full year reaching multiple Grand Slam finals and had deep runs across major tournaments including:
- reaching World No. 1 in WTA doubles (2025)
- achieving a career-high singles ranking (46 IN 2024)
- two Grand Slam titles in doubles (Wimbledon 2024 and Australian Open 2025).
Williams, who is also the founder of the www.elevatewithjohn.com platform, today expressed gratitude to Townsend for the journey they have undertaken together.
“I am so proud of Taylor for her evolution as both an athlete and a champion,” Williams said.
“Coaching Taylor has been an honor. Her growth, discipline, and competitive spirit have made these past four years deeply meaningful.
“I’m incredibly proud of everything she has achieved, and I look forward to watching her continue to succeed at the highest levels of the sport.”
Townsend’s accomplishments during her time under Williams’ guidance reflect a deep commitment to excellence, precision, and elite performance, hallmarks of Williams’ coaching philosophy that have been shaped over decades of work with world‑class athletes across multiple sporting disciplines.
The partnership with Townsend has concluded effective immediately. Coach John Williams has had interest from other players, but no decision has been made on his next steps at the time of this release.
